Minutes of Peace and Social Concerns Meetings
Minutes Peace and Social Concerns Committee
June 28, 2009
Present were: Jill Sebastian, Ken Magee, Tony Swan, and Kate MurpheyOur first Fairview Community PALM (Provide a Loving Meal) dinner is being organized by new committee member, Jill Sebastian. She set up three shifts to work the evening. Many willing volunteers from both our meeting and the young adult home church have signed up. We plan to have members of the meeting donate food, or money, for the dinner each month. We will be doing it the 2nd Tuesday of the month. (Faith's question: How long do we wish to commit to this? Should we have a trial period to see how it goes?)
The Fairview community garden camp is under way and has been well attended by children and adult volunteers alike. The watering schedule seems to be working well and the garden is flourishing.
Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon will be coming on August 23rd during Circle of Friends to do a presentation on torture. We plan to open this up to others in the community who might be interested. We will keep up the torture banner through August.
-We are continuing to pursue and discern the possibility of a Food Bank Site in the Friends House. Maureen Somers has expressed an interest in being the lead person but wishes to explore what is in involved. Jim Hamilton from St. Paul's is scheduled to come on Aug. 2nd to share in meeting for worship about his experience in this role at their food bank site.
